These adorable turkey peanut butter cookies are a fun and delicious Thanksgiving treat. Made with a soft, chewy peanut butter cookie base and decorated with candy corn feathers and pretzel legs, they’re perfect for keeping kids entertained and adding a festive touch to your dessert table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter (Skippy or Jif recommended)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, plus extra for rolling
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (omit if peanut butter is salted)
  • Candy corn (4-5 pieces per cookie)
  • Mini pretzel sticks (2 per cookie)
  • Candy eyes (2 per cookie)
  • Red candy melts or red frosting (for wattle)
  • Orange candy melts or orange frosting (for beak)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, 1 cup sugar, egg, vanilla extract, baking soda, and salt. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and well combined, about 2 minutes.
  3. Pour about ¼ cup extra sugar into a small bowl. Scoop dough into 1.5-tablespoon portions, roll into balls, then roll each ball in sugar to coat. Place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  4. Dip a fork in sugar, then press gently into each dough ball in one direction, then the other, to create a crisscross pattern. Flatten to about ½-inch thick.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and centers look just set. Do not overbake. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. While cookies cool, melt orange and red candy melts separately in microwave-safe bowls in 20-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth.
  7. To assemble: Insert 4-5 candy corn pieces into the top half of each cookie in a fan pattern (pointed ends inward) for tail feathers. Break two mini pretzel sticks in half and insert into the bottom of the cookie at slight angles for legs.
  8. Use melted orange candy to attach two candy eyes to the front of the cookie. Pipe a tiny triangle beak below the eyes. Use melted red candy to pipe a small wattle under the beak.
  9. Let decorations set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes, or refrigerate for 5 minutes to speed up.
  10. Serve immediately or store in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Notes

Chill dough if too sticky. Do not overbake. Use an assembly line for decorating. Let candy melts set properly before moving cookies. Buy extra candy corn for snacking.
