Fudgy chocolate brownies swirled with a creamy peanut butter spider web pattern, perfect for Halloween parties and school bake sales. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients and creates a show-stopping treat that’s as delicious as it is spooky.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup (85g) creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 cup (45g) white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 8–10 candy eyes (optional)
  • 8–10 pretzel sticks, broken in half (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides. Lightly grease the parchment.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in 30-second intervals until fully liquid. Let cool for about 2 minutes.
  3. Whisk the granulated sugar into the melted butter until combined, about 30 seconds.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla, whisk until smooth and glossy, like pudding.
  5. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until no lumps remain.
  6. Add dry ingredients to wet mixture and fold gently with a rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Tap the pan gently on the counter to release air bubbles.
  8. In a small bowl, stir together peanut butter, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth and pipeable.
  9. Transfer peanut butter mixture to a piping bag or zip-top bag with a small corner snipped off. Pipe a spiral pattern on top of the brownie batter, starting from the center and working outward, leaving about 1 inch between rings.
  10. Use a toothpick or butter knife to drag from the center outward through the peanut butter rings, then from the outside inward, alternating directions to create a spider web pattern. Do not over-swirl.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Edges should look set and slightly pulling away from the pan, center should jiggle slightly. A toothpick inserted 2 inches from the edge should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  12. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes, then lift out using parchment handles and cool completely before cutting.
  13. If decorating, melt white chocolate chips in 20-second intervals, stirring between each. Drizzle small spider webs on top of each brownie, add candy eyes and pretzel legs if desired.

Notes

Use creamy peanut butter for smooth piping. Do not over-swirl the pattern—3-4 outward and inward drags is enough. For clean cuts, use a sharp knife wiped clean between slices. Brownies taste even better on day two. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
