This sparkling sugared cranberry garland is a stunning holiday centerpiece that’s incredibly easy to make. With just three main ingredients and 20 minutes of active prep, you can create a beautiful, edible decoration that doubles as a snack for your guests.

Ingredients

  • Fresh Cranberries (12 oz / 340g)
  • Granulated Sugar (1 cup / 200g, divided)
  • Water (1/2 cup / 120ml)
  • Optional Garnishes: Fresh rosemary sprigs, cinnamon sticks, star anise, or dried orange slices

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cranberries (5 minutes): Rinse fresh cranberries in a colander under cold water. Discard any soft, bruised, or stemmed berries. Pat dry completely with a clean towel.
  2. Make the Simple Syrup (5 minutes): In a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool for 2-3 minutes until warm but not hot.
  3. Blanch the Cranberries (2 minutes): Add cranberries to the warm simple syrup. Gently stir to coat all berries. Let sit for about 30 seconds—no longer.
  4. Remove and Drain (2 minutes): Use a slotted spoon or spider strainer to lift cranberries out of syrup, letting excess drip off. Transfer to a cooling rack or parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Let sit for about 5 minutes until tacky but not dripping.
  5. Sugar Coating (10 minutes): Place remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar in a shallow bowl. Working in small handfuls, roll tacky cranberries in sugar until completely coated. Gently shake off excess and place back on cooling rack. Repeat until all berries are coated.
  6. Drying Time (30 minutes to 1 hour): Let sugared cranberries dry completely on the cooling rack until dry to the touch. The sugar will harden slightly, creating a sparkly crust.
  7. Assemble the Garland (10 minutes): On a serving board, arrange sugared cranberries in a flowing, curving line—like a garland. Create gentle S-curves or waves, leaving some space between berries for a light, airy look. Tuck in optional garnishes like rosemary sprigs or cinnamon sticks.
  8. Final Touches (5 minutes): Step back and adjust the arrangement as needed. Serve at room temperature. The cranberries can be nibbled throughout the evening.

Notes

Make ahead: Sugared cranberries can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in an airtight container at room temperature. Do not refrigerate. For best results, let cranberries dry completely before assembling. The garland stays beautiful for 4-6 hours at room temperature.
