A quick and easy Halloween sangria made with apple cider, red wine, and cinnamon. This crowd-pleasing drink is perfect for last-minute parties and gets better as it sits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) apple cider
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) red wine (Merlot, Zinfandel, or fruity Pinot Noir)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) apple brandy or bourbon
  • 2–3 tablespoons (30–45 ml) honey or maple syrup
  • 3–4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith), thinly sliced
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 4–5 whole cloves (optional)
  • Ice as needed

Instructions

  1. Prep the fruit: Wash apples and orange. Cut apples into thin slices or small chunks. Cut orange into thin rounds, then halve each round. Remove any seeds.
  2. Dissolve the sweetener: In a small bowl, mix honey or maple syrup with 2 tablespoons warm water until completely dissolved.
  3. Combine the liquids: In a large pitcher or punch bowl, combine apple cider, red wine, and apple brandy or bourbon. Add dissolved sweetener and stir gently.
  4. Add the spices: Drop in cinnamon sticks and whole cloves (if using). Stir gently.
  5. Add the fruit: Gently add apple slices and orange rounds. Push fruit down into liquid with a spoon.
  6. Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4-6 hours or overnight.
  7. Serve: Stir gently. Fill glasses with ice (or frozen cider cubes), pour sangria over ice, and garnish each glass with some fruit and a cinnamon stick.

Notes

For best flavor, chill at least 2 hours, preferably overnight. Remove cinnamon sticks after 24 hours to avoid bitterness. Use frozen apple cider ice cubes to prevent dilution. For a non-alcoholic version, skip wine and brandy and use sparkling apple cider or ginger ale instead.
