These aren’t your grandma’s deviled eggs—unless your grandma was secretly a fan of spicy food and spooky vibes. This recipe takes the classic, creamy filling we all know and love and gives it a bold, sriracha-fueled upgrade, topped with a fun, edible spider web design that screams Halloween.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs (room temperature preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar (for boiling water)
  • Ice water bath (for shocking eggs)
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise (Hellmann’s or Duke’s recommended)
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (Huy Fong brand recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (for web decoration)
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha (for web decoration)
  • Black sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for spider details)

Instructions

  1. Place 12 eggs in a single layer in a saucepan. Cover with cold water by about an inch. Add 1 tablespoon white vinegar. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Cover, remove from heat, and let sit for exactly 12 minutes for large eggs (13 minutes for extra-large).
  2. While eggs rest, fill a large bowl with ice and cold water. Transfer eggs to ice bath using a slotted spoon. Chill for at least 10 minutes. Peel under cool running water, starting from the wider end.
  3. Pat peeled eggs dry. Slice each egg in half lengthwise with a sharp knife. Gently pop out yolks into a small mixing bowl. Arrange egg white halves on a serving platter, cut-side up.
  4. To the bowl of yolks, add 1/3 cup mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons yellow mustard, 1 tablespoon sriracha, 1 teaspoon rice vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika, and 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder. Mash with a fork until completely smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Spoon filling into a piping bag or zip-top bag. If using a zip-top bag, press filling into one corner, twist top, and snip off about 1/2 inch from corner. Pipe filling generously into each egg white half, mounding slightly in the center.
  6. In a tiny bowl, mix 2 tablespoons mayonnaise with 1 teaspoon sriracha until uniform. Transfer to a separate small zip-top bag and snip off a tiny corner (pinprick size). Starting from the center of each filled egg, pipe a small dot of the sriracha mayo. Using a toothpick, drag the mixture outward in 4-5 straight lines (spokes). Then drag the toothpick in a circular motion around the center, connecting the spokes to create a web pattern. Repeat for each egg. Sprinkle black sesame seeds on top if …
  7. Sprinkle a tiny pinch of smoked paprika over the platter. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve cold.

Notes

Use eggs that are at least a week old for easiest peeling. Don’t overmix the filling to prevent the mayonnaise from breaking. For the web design, practice on a scrap piece of plastic wrap first; a very small piping hole is key. Boil and peel eggs a day in advance if desired. Make a double batch for parties—they disappear quickly. Do not freeze; store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
