A quick and easy fall sangria for two made with white wine, apple cider, caramel, and bourbon. Perfect for last-minute gatherings or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) unfiltered apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) bourbon or whiskey (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 apple, thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 1/2 pear, thinly sliced (Bosc or Anjou)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2–3 whole cloves (optional)
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • Extra apple and pear slices for garnish
  • Fresh rosemary sprig for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apple and pear. Cut them in half, remove the cores, and slice thinly into half-moons about 1/4-inch thick. Place the sliced fruit in the bottom of a pitcher.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick, whole cloves (if using), and star anise (if using) to the pitcher.
  3. Gently muddle the fruit and spices with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to release juices and oils.
  4. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce over the fruit and spices.
  5. Pour in the white wine, apple cider, bourbon (if using), and fresh lemon juice. Stir with a small whisk or fork until the caramel sauce is fully dissolved.
  6. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 24 hours) to let the flavors meld.
  7. When ready to serve, prepare glasses by drizzling extra caramel sauce around the rim if desired.
  8. Give the sangria a gentle stir. Fill each glass with ice (optional) and pour the sangria over the ice, including some fruit and spices.
  9. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, extra apple and pear slices, and a sprig of rosemary if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best flavor, let the sangria chill for at least 30 minutes. If using a very sweet wine, reduce caramel sauce by 1 tablespoon. For a non-alcoholic version, replace wine with more apple cider or sparkling apple cider and skip the bourbon. The sangria is best enjoyed within 24 hours.
