This creamy high-fiber berry overnight oats recipe is the breakfast that makes getting out of bed a little easier. It’s the perfect ratio of oats to liquid, with Greek yogurt for extra creaminess and protein, and frozen berries that create a natural sauce as they thaw.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled old-fashioned oats
  • 2 tablespoons (20g) chia seeds
  • 1 cup (240ml) unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup (120g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup (140g) frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • 1–2 tablespoons (15-30ml) maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • For topping (optional): extra berries, chopped nuts (almonds or walnuts), coconut flakes, drizzle of nut butter

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup rolled oats, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, and a pinch of salt. Whisk together so the chia seeds are evenly distributed.
  2. In a separate small bowl or liquid measuring cup, whisk together 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture. Stir with a spatula until everything is evenly moistened, with no dry oats or chia seeds at the bottom.
  4. Gently fold in 1 cup of frozen mixed berries. Don’t stir too vigorously—you want some berries to stay whole.
  5. Spoon the mixture evenly into 2 or 3 mason jars (16oz size), leaving about an inch of space at the top for the oats to expand.
  6. Seal the jars with lids and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best (8-12 hours).
  7. In the morning, give the oats a good stir. Add toppings (extra berries, nuts, a drizzle of nut butter) and enjoy cold, or microwave for 30-60 seconds if you prefer warm oats.

Notes

Make a double batch on Sunday night for breakfast ready Monday through Wednesday. If using thick yogurt, add an extra splash of milk. The mixture should be slightly looser than you think—the oats and chia will absorb a lot of liquid overnight. Don’t add nuts or granola the night before; add them in the morning to keep them crunchy. Frozen berries work better than fresh as they release juices overnight to create a natural sauce.
