A quick and easy side dish featuring tender-crisp green beans, nutty browned butter, and crunchy toasted almonds. Ready in just 15 minutes with only five simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prep the green beans. Wash them thoroughly under cold water, then trim off the stem ends. Pat the beans completely dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  2. Toast the almonds. Place your large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced almonds in a single layer and cook, stirring frequently, for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and fragrant. Transfer to a small bowl immediately.
  3. Brown the butter. In the same skillet, add the butter over medium heat. Let it melt completely, then continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the butter foams, the foam subsides, and brown specks form at the bottom of the pan.
  4. Cook the garlic. Add the sliced garlic to the browned butter and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant and lightly golden.
  5. Sauté the green beans. Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet in an even layer. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beans are bright green and tender-crisp.
  6. Combine and finish. Return the toasted almonds to the skillet and toss everything together. If using lemon juice, drizzle it over the top and stir to combine. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Serve immediately. Transfer to a serving platter. Garnish with a few extra toasted almonds on top. Serve hot or at room temperature.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the pan; dry beans thoroughly; watch almonds carefully to prevent burning; use low heat for garlic; prep everything before starting; don’t skip the lemon juice.
