Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (about 150g) candy corn
  • 1/2 cup (about 75g) candy pumpkins
  • 1 cup (about 120g) chocolate-covered pretzels
  • 1 cup (about 150g) red or green grapes
  • 8 ounces (225g) sharp cheddar cheese, cut into cubes
  • 4 ounces (115g) brie cheese, sliced into wedges
  • 4 ounces (115g) hard salami, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups (about 200g) assorted crackers
  • 1 cup (about 100g) pretzel sticks
  • 1/2 cup (about 60g) roasted almonds or pecans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (about 80g) dried apricots or cranberries (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (about 75g) green or black olives (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (about 90g) dark chocolate squares (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cheese (5 minutes): Cut the cheddar block into 1-inch cubes. Optionally, use a small cookie cutter to cut some into fun shapes. Slice the brie into thin wedges (about 8 pieces from a 4-ounce wheel). Let the cheese sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  2. Prep the Fruit and Meat (3 minutes): Wash the grapes and pat them completely dry with paper towels. If using dried fruit, chop large pieces. Lay the salami slices flat on a small plate.
  3. Arrange the Bowls (2 minutes): Place small bowls or ramekins on the board first—one in the center for candy corn, one off to the side for candy pumpkins, and additional bowls for olives or nuts if using.
  4. Fill the Bowls (1 minute): Pour the candy corn into the center bowl. Arrange candy pumpkins in the second bowl. If using chocolate-covered pretzels, put them in a third bowl or scatter nearby.
  5. Add the Cheese and Meat (3 minutes): Arrange cheddar cubes in a pile on one side of the board. Place brie wedges nearby. Fan the salami slices out in a row next to the cheese. Spread items out for visual variety.
  6. Fill in the Gaps (2 minutes): Scatter crackers and pretzel sticks around the board, filling empty spaces. Place grapes in little clusters between cheese and meat. Tuck a few pretzel sticks under the brie for height.
  7. Final Touches (1 minute): Step back and check for empty spaces—add more crackers or grapes if needed. Ensure candy corn is visible and front and center. Wipe any smudges off the board with a paper towel. Serve immediately.

Notes

Add candy corn just before serving to prevent it from going stale. Let cheese sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before serving for best flavor. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free crackers and pretzels. For dairy-free, use vegan cheese alternatives.
