This Easy Halloween Popcorn Mix with Candy Corn is a quick and delicious snack that combines popcorn, pretzels, and a buttery candy corn coating. Perfect for Halloween parties, movie nights, or any festive gathering, it comes together in under 30 minutes with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels, or two 3-ounce bags of microwave popcorn, popped and unseasoned)
  • 2 cups pretzel twists (mini twists preferred, or regular-sized broken in half)
  • 1 cup candy corn (classic Brach’s brand works perfectly)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (salted butter works too, reduce added salt)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (skip if using salted butter or heavily salted pretzels)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, rounds out sweetness)
  • 1/2 cup candy pumpkins (optional, add after baking)
  • 1/4 cup fall-themed M&Ms (optional, orange and brown)
  • 1/4 cup roasted salted peanuts (optional, adds crunch)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Pop your popcorn to yield about 10 cups. Remove any unpopped kernels.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the popped popcorn and pretzel twists. Toss gently to distribute.
  4. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the butter and candy corn. Stir constantly for 3-4 minutes until the candy corn softens, then continue stirring for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract (if using) and salt.
  6. Pour the warm candy corn mixture over the popcorn and pretzels. Gently fold with a spatula until evenly coated.
  7. Spread the coated mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  8. Bake at 250°F (120°C) for 12-15 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the mixture looks dry and slightly glossy.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on the pan for 20-30 minutes. If using optional mix-ins like candy pumpkins or M&Ms, sprinkle them over the warm mix and press gently.
  10. Once cool, break into pieces and serve or store in an airtight container.

Notes

For best results, use classic orange and yellow candy corn, not autumn mix. Let the mix cool completely before storing to prevent sogginess. The mix tastes even better the next day. To make gluten-free, use gluten-free pretzels and check candy corn labels. For dairy-free, use vegan butter.
