This Easy Honey Garlic Salmon in Foil Packets is a quick, 20-minute dinner that delivers tender, flaky salmon with a sweet-savory glaze. Perfect for busy weeknights, it requires simple ingredients and minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each, skin-on or skinless)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium if desired)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil (optional).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, rice vinegar (if using), and red pepper flakes (if using). Taste and adjust honey or soy sauce as needed.
  3. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Tear off 4 large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil, each about 12-14 inches long. Place one salmon fillet in the center of each sheet. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of glaze over each fillet, coating the top and sides. Reserve remaining glaze.
  5. Fold the foil over the salmon, then fold the edges over twice to create a tight seal, leaving a little room for steam. Place packets on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on thickness (13 minutes for a 1-inch thick fillet). Salmon should be opaque and flake easily with a fork.
  7. Carefully open the packets (watch for hot steam). Pour reserved glaze into a small saucepan, bring to a simmer over medium heat, and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Drizzle thickened glaze over the cooked salmon. Garnish with fresh parsley or sliced green onions if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, let salmon sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before cooking. If adding vegetables, blanch them first and place under the salmon. Double-check foil seals to prevent leaks. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
