Green Goblin Guacamole - featured image

A fun, kid-friendly guacamole recipe with tortilla ‘fangs’ that turns snack time into a monster-themed adventure. This chunky guacamole is packed with fresh flavors and comes together in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1 medium lime, juiced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely diced
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional)
  • 1 Roma tomato, seeded and diced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 6–8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Extra tortilla chips for serving
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt (optional)
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Stack tortillas and cut into triangles (4-6 per tortilla). Arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder if using. Bake for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy. Set aside to cool.
  2. While fangs bake, prepare ingredients. Cut avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a mixing bowl. Dice onion, tomato, and jalapeño (if using). Chop cilantro. Squeeze lime juice into a small bowl, straining out seeds.
  3. Add lime juice and salt to avocados. Mash with a fork until mostly creamy with some pea-sized chunks remaining. If using jalapeño, mash it in now. Taste and adjust salt as needed.
  4. Fold in diced onion, tomato, and cilantro gently with a spatula until just combined. Avoid overmixing. If adding cheese or hidden veggies, fold them in now.
  5. Transfer guacamole to a wide, shallow serving bowl. Smooth the top with a spoon. Insert tortilla fangs around the edge, pointing upward, about 1 inch apart. For extra goblin effect, add olive ‘eyes’ and a red pepper ‘tongue’ if desired.
  6. Serve immediately with extra tortilla chips, sour cream ‘goblin slime,’ and any other dippers. Best eaten within 30 minutes.

Notes

For best results, use ripe avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure. Soak diced red onion in cold water for 5 minutes to remove sharp bite. Tortilla fangs can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days; re-crisp in a 350°F oven for 3-4 minutes. Guacamole is best served fresh but can be refrigerated with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface for up to 4 hours.
