A fun and easy weeknight dinner that turns hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough into adorable mummies, served with a spider web ketchup design. Perfect for picky eaters and Halloween parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 standard-size hot dogs (beef or turkey recommended)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent rolls (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (thick, good-quality like Heinz)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (optional, for eyes)
  • 1 teaspoon spray oil or melted butter (for greasing or brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough into one large rectangle. If perforated into triangles, press seams together firmly to seal.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into 8 even strips, each about 1 inch wide.
  4. Take one hot dog and wrap a strip of dough around it, slightly overlapping, leaving about 1/2 inch of hot dog exposed at the top for the face. Tuck the end of the dough strip underneath to secure. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
  5. Place wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each.
  6. Optional: Brush the dough lightly with melted butter for extra golden color.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until dough is golden brown and puffed, and hot dogs are heated through.
  8. While mummies bake, prepare spider web ketchup: Fill a squeeze bottle or small plastic bag with 1/4 cup ketchup. On each serving plate, squeeze a small circle of ketchup in the center, then a spiral outward. Using a toothpick, drag lines from the center outward through the spiral to create a web pattern.
  9. Once mummies are out of the oven and slightly cooled (about 2 minutes), add two small dots of mustard for eyes on the exposed hot dog face.
  10. Serve immediately on plates with spider web ketchup.

Notes

For best results, use cold crescent dough for easier cutting. Don’t over-wrap the dough; leave a gap at the top for the face. The spider web ketchup works best with thick ketchup like Heinz. Mummies can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated, or frozen unbaked for up to 3 months.
