These fun and festive Halloween appetizers feature mini hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough to look like mummies, served with a tangy and spicy mustard dip. Quick to make and perfect for parties, they’re a crowd-pleaser that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 24 mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages (about 12–14 oz)
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Mustard or small candy eyes for decorating
  • 1/2 cup yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll crescent roll dough onto a cutting board. If using regular crescent rolls, pinch perforated seams together to create one solid sheet. Cut dough into 24 thin strips, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide and 4 inches long.
  3. Wrap one dough strip around each mini hot dog, starting at one end and winding toward the other, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Press the end to seal. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Brush each wrapped mummy with the egg wash. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. While baking, make the dip: In a small bowl, whisk together yellow mustard, honey, mayonnaise, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and salt. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  7. Let mummies cool for 2-3 minutes. Pipe two small dots of mustard onto each exposed hot dog face for eyes, or press candy eyes into the warm dough.
  8. Serve warm with the spicy mustard dip.

Notes

Keep dough cold for easier handling. Don’t over-wrap—one strip per mummy is enough. Space mummies at least 1 inch apart on the baking sheet. Make the dip first to let flavors meld. For make-ahead, assemble mummies up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate, then add 1-2 minutes to baking time.
