Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sour cream (full-fat recommended)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish, optional)
  • 1 large round platter or pizza pan (12–14 inches wide)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets (bite-sized)
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets (bite-sized)
  • 1 cup carrot sticks (2–3 inches long, thin matchsticks)
  • 1 cup cucumber slices (half-moons or rounds)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes (halved if large)
  • 1/2 cup black olives (whole, for spider decoration)
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese (softened, for spider legs)

Instructions

  1. Make the Ranch Dip: In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 packet ranch seasoning mix, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (if using). Whisk until smooth and creamy. Cover and refrigerate while prepping vegetables.
  2. Prep the Vegetables: Wash all vegetables. Cut broccoli and cauliflower into small florets (about 1 inch across). Slice carrot sticks into thin matchsticks (2-3 inches long). Cut cucumber into half-moons or rounds. Halve cherry tomatoes if large.
  3. Assemble the Spider Web Base: Place a round platter on a flat surface. Spoon ranch dip into a piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Starting from the center, pipe a small circle of dip (about 2 inches in diameter). Pipe larger concentric circles around it, each about 2 inches apart, until you have 4-5 circles. The outermost circle should be about 1 inch from the edge.
  4. Create the Web Lines: Using the same piping bag, pipe 6-8 straight lines radiating from the center circle outward to the edge, like spokes on a wheel. These lines should cross over the concentric circles to create a web pattern.
  5. Arrange the Vegetables: Place vegetables in the spaces between the web lines. Start with the outer ring: broccoli florets along the edge. Move inward: cauliflower, then carrot sticks, then cucumber slices, then cherry tomatoes in the center ring. Press vegetables gently into the dip to keep them in place.
  6. Make the Spider Decoration: Take a whole black olive for the spider body. Using a paring knife or toothpick, make small holes on each side. Insert thin strips of cream cheese into the holes to form legs (four on each side). Place the spider in the center of the web. Optionally, make 2-3 small spiders scattered around.
  7. Chill and Serve: For best results, refrigerate the assembled tray for 30 minutes before serving to firm up the dip and crisp the vegetables. Serve immediately if desired.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat sour cream for a thicker dip. If making ahead, blanch broccoli and cauliflower for 30 seconds to keep them crisp. The dip can be made a day in advance for better flavor. Store leftovers separately: vegetables keep 2-3 days, dip up to 5 days in the fridge.
