These Festive Cranberry Vodka Jello Shots are tart, boozy, wobbly little gems that feel festive and sophisticated. Perfect for holiday parties, they’re quick to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) cold water
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 packets (about 14 g total) unflavored gelatin
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Fresh cranberries (optional garnish)
  • Orange zest (optional garnish)
  • Mint leaves (optional garnish)
  • Edible glitter or sanding sugar (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Set out your shot cups or silicone mold on a baking sheet. If using plastic cups with lids, keep the lids nearby but don’t put them on yet.
  2. Bloom the gelatin: Pour the 3 tablespoons of cold water into a medium mixing bowl or liquid measuring cup. Sprinkle the two packets of unflavored gelatin evenly over the surface. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes without stirring until it becomes a firm, jiggly mass.
  3. Heat the cranberry juice: In a small saucepan, combine the cranberry juice, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is steaming but not boiling (small bubbles around the edges).
  4. Combine the mixtures: Pour the hot cranberry juice over the bloomed gelatin. Whisk gently but thoroughly until the gelatin is completely dissolved. The mixture should be clear and smooth. If needed, strain through a fine-mesh strainer.
  5. Add the vodka: Let the cranberry-gelatin mixture cool for 2-3 minutes, then whisk in the vodka. The mixture should be warm but not hot to the touch.
  6. Pour into cups: Carefully pour the mixture into your prepared shot cups, filling each about 3/4 full. If adding garnishes like fresh cranberries, drop them in now.
  7. Chill until set: Transfer the baking sheet with the filled cups to the refrigerator. Chill for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best. The jello should be firm to the touch and wobble slightly when shaken.
  8. Serve and enjoy: Once set, put the lids on the cups if using, or pop them out of silicone molds onto a serving platter. Garnish with orange zest or mint leaves if desired. Serve cold.

Notes

Don’t boil the cranberry juice. Let the gelatin bloom fully. Cool the mixture before adding vodka. Use room temperature ingredients. Plan ahead—these taste better the next day. Test one before serving.
