A crisp and refreshing sparkling water drink featuring cucumber, basil, and a subtle jalapeño kick, perfect for warm weather and quick preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ medium cucumber, thinly sliced (preferably English cucumber)
  • 68 fresh basil leaves, gently torn
  • 1 small jalapeño, thinly sliced (seeds removed for mild heat or kept for more punch)
  • Juice of 1 fresh lime
  • 4 cups (32 fl oz) sparkling water (plain or lightly flavored)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)
  • Optional: 1-2 teaspoons honey or agave syrup for sweetness

Instructions

  1. Rinse cucumber and basil leaves under cold water. Thinly slice cucumber about ¼ inch thick. Thinly slice jalapeño, removing seeds if milder heat is desired.
  2. Gently tear basil leaves into smaller pieces to release aroma or lightly press with a muddler or back of a spoon.
  3. Add cucumber slices, basil, and jalapeño slices to a large pitcher. Pour in fresh lime juice and stir gently to combine.
  4. If desired, stir in honey or agave syrup for a touch of sweetness.
  5. Pour 4 cups of chilled sparkling water into the pitcher and stir gently. Add ice cubes to chill and slightly dilute.
  6. Optionally, let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes to meld flavors.
  7. Pour into glasses, ensuring each serving has cucumber, basil, and jalapeño slices. Garnish with a basil sprig or thin jalapeño slice if desired. Serve chilled.

Notes

Start with a small amount of jalapeño and taste before adding more to control heat. Tear basil gently to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Chill sparkling water and cucumber beforehand for a colder drink without excess dilution. Consume within 24 hours for best freshness. Optional to add alcohol for a cocktail twist.
