Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large bag black tortilla chips
  • 1 small bottle black food coloring gel
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 1 can or jar black olives, drained
  • 1 package small ciliegine mozzarella balls
  • 1 block orange cheddar cheese (about 8 ounces)
  • 20 slices pepperoni or salami
  • 30 wooden toothpicks or short skewers
  • Small Halloween cookie cutters (ghost, pumpkin, bat shapes)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 can black bean dip
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 bunch red grapes
  • 1/2 cup dried apricots
  • 1/2 cup almonds or pecans (smoked almonds recommended)
  • 2–3 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon edible glitter or luster dust (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Black Cream Cheese Dip: In a small bowl, combine 8 ounces softened cream cheese with 1/2 cup sour cream and 1 packet ranch seasoning mix. Stir until smooth. Add black food coloring gel gradually until you achieve a deep dark gray color. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Prepare the Halloween Skewers: Drain mozzarella balls and pat dry. Cut cheddar into 1/2-inch cubes. Use Halloween cookie cutters to stamp shapes from mozzarella and cheddar. Thread toothpicks with cheddar cubes, folded pepperoni slices, and shaped mozzarella. Make about 20-25 skewers total.
  3. Arrange the Board: Place small bowls of black cream cheese dip, black bean dip, and marinara sauce in different corners of a large serving board. Arrange black tortilla chips in a large cluster near one edge. Add Halloween skewers in a neat row or scattered cluster.
  4. Fill in the gaps with black olives, red grapes, dried apricots, and almonds or pecans in small clusters. Tuck fresh rosemary sprigs between bowls and skewers. If using, dust edible glitter lightly over cheese cubes and black olives.
  5. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving. If refrigerating, cover loosely with plastic wrap and add chips and skewers just before serving.

Notes

Don’t overdo the black food coloring; start with a tiny amount and build up. Pat all ingredients dry to prevent sogginess. Use room temperature cheese for easier cutting. Skewers can be made up to 24 hours ahead. For a natural black color, use activated charcoal powder or squid ink instead of food coloring.
