A quick and easy no-bake dessert dip that tastes like a cloud. Made with Christmas tree cakes, cream cheese, and whipped topping, it’s a festive and crowd-pleasing holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (13.5 oz) Christmas Tree Cake Mix (e.g., Little Debbie)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 cup whipped topping, thawed (e.g., Cool Whip)
  • Green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • Holiday sprinkles
  • For serving: Pretzel sticks, graham crackers, vanilla wafers, or apple slices

Instructions

  1. Crush the Christmas tree cakes: Place them in a large zip-top bag and crush into fine crumbs using your hands or a rolling pin. Set aside about 2 tablespoons for garnish.
  2. Beat the cream cheese: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides.
  3. Add the sweetness: Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Beat on low until combined, then increase to medium and beat for another minute until smooth and creamy. If too thick, add another tablespoon of milk.
  4. Add the color: Add green food coloring a few drops at a time, mixing until you achieve a festive green color (about 8-10 drops of gel).
  5. Fold in the whipped topping: Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping with a spatula until no white streaks remain. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the cake crumbs: Reserve 2 tablespoons of crumbs, then fold the rest into the dip mixture with gentle folds.
  7. Shape your tree: Transfer the dip to a piping bag or zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. On a serving platter, pipe into a tree shape (small point at top, zigzag down) or spread into a tree shape with a spatula.
  8. Decorate: Sprinkle reserved cake crumbs and holiday sprinkles over the top. Press gently so they stick. Optionally, add a pretzel stick trunk.
  9. Chill (optional but recommended): Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes before serving to set. Serve immediately if desired.

Notes

Let cream cheese soften for at least 30 minutes before starting to avoid lumps. Do not overmix the whipped topping to keep the dip light and airy. Add sprinkles just before serving to prevent color bleeding. The dip can be made ahead (without shaping and decorating) and refrigerated for up to 2 days. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free vanilla cake or cookies. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free cream cheese, coconut whipped topping, and plant-based milk.
