These lighter mummy pigs in a blanket use thinner dough and smaller sausages for a clever, crowd-pleasing Halloween snack. Served with a quick spicy mustard dip, they’re perfect for parties and game days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 24 small cocktail sausages or lil’ smokies
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk or water
  • 24 small dots of mustard or ketchup (for eyes)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for sprinkling
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Pinch of garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean, lightly floured surface. If using perforated triangles, pinch seams together to form a single sheet. Roll out gently to about 1/8-inch thick.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into strips about 1/2-inch wide. You should get about 24 strips.
  4. Place one cocktail sausage at the end of a dough strip and wrap it around, slightly overlapping, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Press the end to seal. Repeat with all sausages. Place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk or water. Brush each mummy lightly with the egg wash.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  7. While still warm, use a toothpick or knife tip to add two small dots of mustard or ketchup to the exposed sausage for eyes.
  8. While mummies bake, combine Dijon mustard, honey, mayonnaise, hot sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Whisk until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  9. Serve mummies warm with the spicy mustard dip.

Notes

For best results, keep dough cold and don’t overwork it. Leave a gap at the top of each sausage for the mummy face. The dip can be made ahead and actually improves in flavor after sitting. For gluten-free, use gluten-free crescent dough. For dairy-free, skip the egg wash and brush with olive oil.
