A quick and easy Halloween cocktail made with fresh blood orange juice, vodka, and lime. This deep crimson drink is tart, sweet, and perfect for spooky gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz vodka (preferably Tito’s)
  • 4 oz fresh blood orange juice (about 2 medium blood oranges)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 1 blood orange slice (for garnish)
  • 1 fresh rosemary sprig (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon pomegranate seeds (optional, for vampire effect)
  • Black sanding sugar (optional, for rimming the glass)

Instructions

  1. Prep your glass (2 minutes): If you want a rimmed glass, run a blood orange wedge around the rim, then dip into black sanding sugar. Set aside to dry.
  2. Juice the blood oranges (3 minutes): Cut blood oranges in half crosswise and squeeze juice using a citrus juicer. Strain if desired to remove seeds and pulp.
  3. Chill your glass (optional, 5 minutes): Place prepared glass in the freezer or fill with ice while making the drink.
  4. Combine ingredients in the shaker (1 minute): Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka, blood orange juice, lime juice, and simple syrup (if using).
  5. Shake vigorously (15-20 seconds): Secure lid and shake until shaker feels frosty.
  6. Strain and pour (10 seconds): Remove any ice from glass, then strain cocktail into the glass.
  7. Garnish and serve (1 minute): Add blood orange slice to rim, drop pomegranate seeds into drink, and slide in rosemary sprig. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh blood orange juice for best flavor. Adjust simple syrup based on sweetness of oranges. For a non-alcoholic version, replace vodka with sparkling water or ginger ale. Batch the juice and garnishes ahead for parties.
