Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ounces (about 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons) unsweetened cranberry juice (100% juice, e.g., Lakewood Organic or Ocean Spray Pure Cranberry)
  • 2 ounces (about 1/4 cup) fresh orange juice (from about 1 medium orange)
  • 1/2 ounce (about 1 tablespoon) fresh lime juice
  • 4 to 6 ounces (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup) ginger beer (not ginger ale; e.g., Fever-Tree or Q Mixers)
  • Ice cubes (preferably large, clear)
  • For garnish: fresh cranberries (about 1/4 cup), orange slices or zest, optional fresh mint or rosemary sprig

Instructions

  1. Prep your garnishes first: Slice one orange into thin rounds, then cut one of the rounds in half. Cut a lime into wedges. Rinse about 1/4 cup of fresh cranberries and pat them dry. If using rosemary or mint, rinse it too.
  2. Fill your glass with ice. Pack it full for an ice-cold drink.
  3. Pour 3 ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice over the ice.
  4. Add 2 ounces of freshly squeezed orange juice.
  5. Squeeze in 1/2 ounce of fresh lime juice.
  6. Top with 4 to 6 ounces of ginger beer. Start with 4 ounces, taste, and add more if desired.
  7. Stir gently with a spoon for about 10 seconds to combine, being careful not to lose carbonation.
  8. Add garnishes: Drop in a few fresh cranberries, add an orange slice to the rim or float it on top, and add a rosemary sprig if using.
  9. Taste and adjust: Add more lime, ginger beer, or a touch of honey if needed.
  10. Serve immediately while the ginger beer is fizzy and the drink is cold. Best enjoyed within 30 minutes.

Notes

For best results, chill all ingredients beforehand. Use unsweetened cranberry juice and fresh citrus for optimal flavor. Adjust ginger beer amount to taste. For a party, mix juices ahead (up to 2 days) and add ginger beer and ice just before serving. To make it alcoholic, add 2 ounces of vodka. For a less sweet version, use dry/spicy ginger beer and extra lime juice. Frozen cranberries can be used as garnish and decorative ice cubes.
