Spooky Purple Potion Halloween Punch Easy Dry Ice Recipe - featured image

A quick and easy Halloween punch with a dramatic dry ice fog effect. Made with grape juice, lemon-lime soda, and frozen berries, this spooky purple potion is the perfect party centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups purple grape juice
  • 2 cups lemon-lime soda (clear, such as Sprite or 7Up)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon edible glitter or luster dust (optional)
  • 1–2 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Large punch bowl or cauldron (glass or plastic)

Instructions

  1. Put on gloves or get tongs ready. If dry ice is in a large block, wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and gently tap with a small hammer or mallet to break into small chunks (about golf ball size or smaller). Set aside in an open bowl.
  2. In a punch bowl, combine 4 cups purple grape juice and 1/2 cup cold water. Stir gently.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and stir again. If using edible glitter, sprinkle it in and stir.
  4. Add 1 cup frozen mixed berries. Do not stir too hard—keep them whole.
  5. Just before serving, pour in 2 cups lemon-lime soda and stir gently to keep carbonation.
  6. Using tongs or gloved hands, carefully drop a few chunks of dry ice into the punch. Start with 1-2 chunks; add more as needed. The fog will pour out immediately.
  7. Ladle punch into cups, ensuring no dry ice chunks get into glasses. Serve immediately. Add more dry ice chunks every 15-20 minutes to maintain fog effect.

Notes

Always handle dry ice with tongs or gloves—never bare hands. Do not let anyone consume dry ice chunks. The punch is safe to drink once dry ice has fully sublimated (about 5-10 minutes). For a less sweet version, use sparkling water instead of lemon-lime soda. For an adult version, add 1 cup vodka or white rum.
