A festive and easy-to-make sparkling cranberry prosecco punch that started as a happy accident. Perfect for New Year’s Eve parties, this crowd-pleasing cocktail balances tart cranberry and bubbly sweetness with a secret muddling trick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) prosecco, chilled
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cranberry juice, chilled
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) simple syrup
  • 1 cup (150 g) fresh cranberries
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup (75 g) pomegranate seeds (optional)
  • Ice cubes or a large ice ring
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (for garnish, optional)
  • Edible flowers or sugared cranberries (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup (if making from scratch): In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar and 1/2 cup (120 ml) water. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. Prepare the fruit: Rinse fresh cranberries under cold water and pick out any soft or bruised ones. Pat dry. Slice the orange into thin rounds, about 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. If using pomegranate seeds, pop them out of the fruit.
  3. Muddle the cranberries: Place about 1/2 cup of the cranberries in the bottom of your pitcher or punch bowl. Use the back of a wooden spoon to gently press on them until they burst.
  4. Build the base: Pour the cranberry juice, orange juice, and simple syrup over the muddled cranberries. Stir gently to combine. Cover and refrigerate for up to 4 hours if making ahead.
  5. Add the ice: Just before serving, add your ice ring or a generous amount of ice cubes.
  6. Pour the prosecco: Slowly pour the chilled prosecco into the pitcher or bowl, pouring gently down the side to preserve carbonation. Give one or two gentle stirs.
  7. Garnish and serve: Float remaining fresh cranberries, orange slices, and pomegranate seeds on top. Tuck in a few rosemary sprigs. Ladle or pour into champagne flutes or small glasses. Serve immediately.

Notes

Chill all ingredients before mixing. Muddle cranberries for best flavor. Add prosecco just before serving to keep bubbles. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute prosecco with sparkling water or non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Leftovers can be strained and stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours; revive with fresh sparkling water.
